You can enjoy a relaxing holiday in this beautiful corner of Turkey with the beach and the old centre of town, with it's many fine restaurants, only 5 minute drive away. The large communal swimming pool  is the ideal place for you and your kids to cool off and soak up the sun and you can always retreat to the air conditioned comfort of the villa if it gets too hot.

Bodrum / Gumusluk Area : The peaceful village of Gumusluk is one of the oldest settlements on the Bodrum peninsula.  It stands on the site of the ancient Carian city of Myndus whose seafront sections slid into the sea in some long-forgotten earthquake. Today these remains are a magnet for snorkerlas, in 2006 one hundred archaeologists descended on Gumusluk to start excavating the land, so far they have uncovered further walls and mosaics. 

Myndus is mentioned in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar.  The story goes that Brutus and Cassius, the principal knife-wielders in Caesar’s murder kept their fleet in the harbour of Myndus in the civil war that followed.

Gümüslük. Gümüs is the Turkish word for Silver.  Its not clear why Gümüslük is called by its name. Some locals say it’s due to the history of Mydus when the city used to be powerful enough to mine and mint its own silver coins. It’s also been said that its due to the common sight of ‘yakamoz’ (reflection of the moon on the water) turning the water in the bay a beautiful silver.

Today Gumusluk retains a small-scale, relaxed and magical atmospheree thanks to strictly enforced building prohibitions, designed to protect the ancient site.  The charming flower-bedecked houses follow the curve of a small and pretty bay.  Gumusluk is the perfect antidote for modern-day living, it’s a great place to unwind in an idyllic setting.  The wonderful shelter of the bay provides a natural harbor for yachts and local fishing boats, the waterfront restaurants enjoy a reputation for excellent fresh fish amongst the Turks as far away as Istanbul.  Gumusluk is famed amongst many famous Turkish actors, artists and musicians who frequent the bay during the summer months.  

Rabbit Island separates the two well-sheltered bays of Gumusluk and is accessible by a partially sunken causeway. The Island offers a magnificent panorama of the bay, a glimpse of the famous rabbits scurrying around and for those of you feeling more adventurous, great rock jumping from the many rock formations!

How to get there : Fly to Bodrum airport (bjv) using many low cost airlines e.g my travel, excel, monarch, thomson fly, a1 travel, holiday 4u.co.uk from almost all UK airports. Gumusluk is 35 miles from Bodrum airport - about 45 mins transfer time. Transfers are available at reasonable rates for 1-4 persons £50, 4-14 persons £70 (per vehicle one way).
